Pink Pyongyang

Pink Pyongyang

When you get one of those sunsets where the sky changes colors, it can be quite magical. Nothing like some shades of pink and perhaps a twinge of sunset orange to beautify the sky. Down below, the roads are quiet and people walk through the park.

The Rungnado May Day Stadium is out in the distance. This is where the grand Arirang festival was held when I saw it in 2009. Sadly, the festival hasn't been running for the last few years, but perhaps one day it shall return greater than before, although with a 100,000 performers it's not easy show to beat.

I like the way Pyongyang's concrete buildings are practically held at bay by the park and surrounded by the Taedong River. The transition is rather beautiful I think, and nice to see a city with this much greenery, rather than the afterthought that is usually the case elsewhere.
