After recently visiting Bodie, my second ghost town ever, I really miss Kolmanskop. I have fond memories of climbing through windows to get inside some of the buildings. The sand can be several feet high in some, and if you were to try to open the door you'd be hard pressed to see it even nudge unless perhaps you spent a good chunk of time digging first.
For a bunch of abandoned buildings, it didn't really feel as eerie as you would expect. Perhaps because it was daytime. Instead, I was just filled with wonder and awe at seeing the desert work on reclaiming its territory. This is one place I truly do hope I get to visit again some day.
