The Chortens At The Dochula Pass

The Chortens At The Dochula Pass

High above on the top of a mountain pass, 108 chortens (stupas) were constructed to honor the deaths of Bhutanese soldiers that fought and defeated several guerrilla groups operating in the area. The Druk Wangyal Chortens, as they are known, sit on the Dochula Pass which connects Thimphu and Punakha.

Thimphu is the current capital of Bhutan, and Punakha it's old one. The area offers a view of the Himalayan mountains. Like much of Bhutan, the air is clean, the scenery beautiful, and the Buddhist sensory relaxes the mind and soothes the spirit.

Elevation: 10,245 ft (3123m)
