Before I visited Antarctica, I vaguely knew there were some different kinds of penguins, but didn't really know much beyond that. In actuality, there's 19 extant species, although at least one of them is disputed. This penguin here is a Gentoo Penguin.
If you're a techie, the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Gentoo might be an operating system and not a penguin, but yes indeed, Gentoo is a penguin species.
Gentoos grow to a height of 51 to 90 cm (20 to 35") and are the third largest penguin species. Their weight gets up to a maximum of 8.5 kg (19lbs) for a male, and 8.2kg (18lbs) for a female. So a bit larger than your typical house cat, but not by a whole lot really.
Penguin on the rocks, not shaken, not stirred.
