At the edge of the Antarctic circle, these Gentoo penguins have set up their own base. Sure, there might be a dozen or so Ukrainian scientists who also think this is their base, but in Antarctica, Mother Nature and all her creations rule supreme.
Touring Vernadsky Research Base is a unique stop to a research station in Antarctica. A taste of remote isolation and mental fortitude. Yes, you are not totally alone, but when you're this far out, getting visitors isn't exactly a daily occurrence. I imagine the only thing tougher from a mental and emotional standpoint is an assignment in outer space where you're even more confined and remote. In comparison, if you're stationed in Antarctica you at least get to watch the comical behaviors of the flightless birds.
