Sometimes you arrive at your destination, and it's everything you hoped for and more. In the case of Deadvlei, I ran down from the ridge line of one of the surrounding dunes. Not because I was so excited, but because, well, I thought it would be fun but also, it was steep enough that walking down might have been a lot more work than running down. In theory, great idea, in practice, a little tricky when you have a camera backpack with a tripod on it.
In the end, spending the sunrise at Deadvlei was quite magical. The eerie setting remained eerie even after the sun rose. It's a place I hope can remain preserved and protected for years to come.
